Before taking out private health insurance, you usually have to answer questions about your state of health. In the case of certain chronic illnesses, for example asthma or depression, membership is usually refused. With Provisit Grant, pre-existing conditions do not play a role.

As a rule, academics from abroad can take out health insurance for a maximum of 5 years. However, with Provisit Grant
 you have the so-called "right to continue insurance": after 5 years you can change to an unlimited tariff.

If you are employed in Germany during your employment, your employer may contribute to the costs of health insurance. 

If you become ill as an employee, your employer usually pays your wages for 6 weeks. After that, your health insurance usually takes over. You can choose to take out Provisit Grant with or without sickness allowance payment.

Provisit Grant pays for measures, treatments and medicines that are not part of the standard program of statutory health insurance, e.g. visual aids or patient return transport.

Provisit Grant can be purchased by sponsored scholars prior to entry and 6 weeks after entry without a health exam.

Provisit Grant can be optionally supplemented by the Protect package with personal liability insurance, baggage insurance, accident insurance and assistance insurance.
