Prague - you must have seen these five sights

Prague has enjoyed the reputation of being one of the most beautiful cities in the world since the Middle Ages. And any traveler who has ever visited the Czech capital will be able to confirm this. Few cities in the world have such a beautiful and well-preserved historic old town as Prague. No wonder, then, that the entire city center of Prague is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Prague Castle

Prague Castle, which towers over the city center, is the main attraction of the Czech capital and is one of the most important and famous sights in the world. After all, Prague Castle is the largest enclosed castle complex in the world. It goes without saying that Prague Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historical, architectural and political significance.

The first buildings were erected on Prague's Hradčany Castle Hill as early as the 9th century. Today, St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace and St. George's Basilica are some of the most historically significant and beautiful buildings in the Czech Republic.

Prague Castle has always been one of the political centers of Europe. The dukes and kings of Bohemia as well as two Holy Roman Emperors resided here. Today, the Czech President has his seat on Hradčany Castle.

The Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary and beautiful historic bridges in the world. Built in the 14th century, the bridge over the Vltava River is one of the oldest preserved stone bridges in Europe. The special features of Charles Bridge are the 30 stone figures on both sides and the two imposing bridge towers that form the "entrance" to the bridge.

The Charles Bridge is not only a wonderful photo motif in itself, but from the bridge you can also enjoy a fantastic view of Prague's Old Town on one side and Prague Castle on the other. Especially at night, when the bridge is illuminated by gas lanterns, it is a particularly beautiful sight.

The Old Town Square

The Old Town Square is not only the most important and oldest square in Prague, but also undoubtedly one of the most beautiful squares in the world. What's more, the Old Town Square is probably the best starting point for a stroll through Prague's Old Town.

The almost one-hectare square is surrounded by a wealth of beautiful historical buildings, including the Old Town Hall, the Teyn Church, the rococo Kinksky Palace and the baroque Church of St. Nicholas. In the middle of the square stands the monumental memorial to the reformer Jan Hus.

The Lesser Town of Prague

When traveling to Prague, you should definitely take enough time for a walk through the so-called "Prague Lesser Town". Located between the Vltava River and Prague Castle, this district is one of the most beautiful historically preserved districts in the world and is a sight in its own right.

You can discover numerous baroque palaces, churches, museums and gardens along the cobbled streets. A stroll through the picturesque narrow streets of Prague's Lesser Town is like a journey back in time to centuries past.

Wenceslas Square

Wenceslas Square is the second most famous square in Prague after the Old Town Square. It forms the center of Prague's New Town. At 750 meters long and 60 meters wide, Wenceslas Square is almost the size of a grand boulevard and is one of the largest urban squares in Europe.

Its beautiful architecture and numerous cafés, bars, restaurants and stores make Wenceslas Square one of the most popular shopping and nightlife destinations in the Czech capital.
